DEADLINGS

Deadlings.gif

Team Background

Shambling onto the field, these half-pint sized denizens from the afterlife don't let a little thing like being dead stop them from playing Elfball. While these players barely see over the head of a Imp, they pack some powerful punches. Combined with the power of the Deadwoods, this is one of the most feared teams alive …in a manner of speaking.

Detailed History:

The Deadlings inhabit the eastern marches known as Dunemaul which was once an idillic and fertile rural backwater. Dunemaul is now a blighted and barren place, having been slowly polluted over the aeons from the mining activities of the Black Rock Dwarves. The Dwarves shun traditional mining methods and instead use potent dark magic to assist with the search of precious minerals and ores. Magically tainted smelting waste has been callously dumped into the headwaters of the Dunemaul's rivers for as long as anyone can remember with no regard for the creatures living there.

The inhabitants of the area were once a cheerful carefree race known as the Dunlings, but over the centuries they have also been slowly mutated by the toxins and can no longer be said to be truly alive. The Deadlings appear as shambling ruined forms of the creatures they used to be, but oddly they don't seem to mind or even notice and happily continue about their daily routines, tending beds of wilted flowers in their gardens and picking the decaying fruit from their orchards.

Once upon a time the Dunlings used to be fanatical Elfball fans, and would often travel for days across the country following their favourite teams. Being undead naturally has some advantages and in recent years they take a much more active role in the sport, as their unnatural strength and ability to withstand otherwise crippling injuries makes them one of the toughest teams on the Elfball circuit.

The team also field the mighty Deadwoods, which are animated abominations awakened by the same magical energy which corrupted their team mates. Most sensible opponents stay out of arm's reach where possible as the Deadwoods seem to take perverse delight in ripping any living opponent limb from limb.
